He was a Lur from Iran, born in Borojerd. An electrician by trade. He cycled
everywhere, helped everyone, friends and strangers alike, and built a life on
quiet generosity. The kind of person who'd look in on a neighbour because he'd
noticed they'd been quiet that week.
Papi Labs is a tribute to him. The aim is the same as his was, just at a different
scale: build things that help as many people as possible, without asking for
anything cruel in return.
The mark is the iwan, the pointed Persian arch he would have walked under
in Borojerd. In modern Persian, the word for a walled paradise garden is Pardis.
The English word "paradise" comes from the Old Persian pairidaēza, meaning
"walled enclosure" or a royal pleasure garden. This studio is one of those gardens.
The iwan is the door.
